Sophia was a mystery reader at my school today. Her book selection was Green Eggs and Ham, a perfect choice since it was Dr. Seuss's birthday this week. She hadn't read this book before today and after practicing at grandma and grandpa's, gave a perfect rendition of it in the classroom. I was one proud mom! On the way home from my parents' house, Sophia read it to Andrew and followed it up with this conversation.
Sophia: Ok, Andrew. Before I give you the book, what was your favorite part?
Andrew: The train part (big surprise there)
Sophia: Ok, Andrew. I'm going to read that part to you again.
Later...
Sophia:Andrew, can you tell me what happened in this story. For example, first this happened and then this happened and this happened last.
Andrew: silence as he tries to figure out why he's being quizzed on the book
Sophia: Andrew, you just think about that and let me know.
And still later...
Sophia:Andrew, do you know what this book is about? It's about trying new things. For example, you don't like onions. But you shouldn't just say that without trying them. You might try them and decide they are really good.
This went on for some time, with Sophia doing the majority of the talking. I wish I'd been able to record the entire conversation. Who needs the radio when you've got live entertainment like that?
