It's the little added touch that really makes this particular breakfast in bed so special. You might notice the writing on the napkin. Growing up, my mom always wrote us little notes on our napkins when packing our lunches. While they were meant to be read at lunchtime, I could never wait. Often, I opened my lunch on the bus on the way to school so I could read the message. When I make Sophia lunches, I have kept this tradition. In fact, I did it on her first day of school but she didn't know to look for it so she threw away the napkin without seeing it. This week, while on Spring Break, I have left her a napkin note each morning while packing her lunch. In fact, she even requested it one day. So, when she brought breakfast up to me today, it melted my heart to see that she had written me a message. See for yourself.
It reads, "To mom-we hope you have a good day. Love Sophia Andrew"
I try to do things with my kids that I remember liking while growing up. In addition to the notes on napkins, Sophia and Andrew always get their initials when we have pancakes and make homemade ice cream every summer. I hope that one day, they will carry on these same traditions with their own kids.
