Disatisfied Customer

Dear Bruegger's Bagels,
I have a very unhappy boy.  This morning, we visited your establishment for breakfast as we often do on weekends.  My son adores your french toast bagels.  Today, however, I was unable to fulfill his request.  It seems that these bagels were available for a limited time only.  When I had to break the news to Andrew, his response was (while crying), "I am not happy at them."  Take note-there is at least one three-year old that would love for you to bring them back.  I was eventually able to convince him to eat the cinnamon sugar bagel I bought as a substitute, but in the eyes of this little boy, it just doesn't compare.

Sincerely,
Andrew's mom

All Aboard!

Today we went to the Jackson Street Roundhouse in St. Paul.  Of course Andrew was in heaven because it was trains, trains and more trains but I think Sophia had a good time too.  They both enjoyed going for a short ride in the engine car and caboose.  I'll let the pictures speak for themselves-just click on the link.

Breakfast in Bed

Andrew crept in to our room this morning and informed me that he and sister were serving me breakfast in bed. Then they scurried downstairs and began putting together the menu. I knew they were finished when an argument broke out about who was carrying up which items. They worked it out and presented me with the following.

It's the little added touch that really makes this particular breakfast in bed so special. You might notice the writing on the napkin. Growing up, my mom always wrote us little notes on our napkins when packing our lunches. While they were meant to be read at lunchtime, I could never wait. Often, I opened my lunch on the bus on the way to school so I could read the message. When I make Sophia lunches, I have kept this tradition. In fact, I did it on her first day of school but she didn't know to look for it so she threw away the napkin without seeing it. This week, while on Spring Break, I have left her a napkin note each morning while packing her lunch. In fact, she even requested it one day. So, when she brought breakfast up to me today, it melted my heart to see that she had written me a message. See for yourself.

It reads, "To mom-we hope you have a good day. Love Sophia Andrew"
I try to do things with my kids that I remember liking while growing up. In addition to the notes on napkins, Sophia and Andrew always get their initials when we have pancakes and make homemade ice cream every summer. I hope that one day, they will carry on these same traditions with their own kids.

Future Author

Sophia is quite the writer. In fact, you will usually find her doing one of two things-drawing or writing. When I get up in the morning, I am usually met by at least one new picture, story or love letter to me. See for yourself in the pictures below. Be sure to enlarge them (double click on the picture) so you can read everything. A little background for one of them-Sophia has wanted a replacement scooter for the one her daddy backed into with his car. When she didn't earn it right away, she quickly ran out of patience and constructed the second picture. For those of you that may not be familiar with Sophia's phonetic spelling, this first one says: I love you in the day, I love you at night. I love you at noon. I love you in the morning. I love you everywhere. I love you in my heart all day long for you are the best mom in the whole wide world. Sweet, isn't it?
