Don't Look Back
Making a decision and not looking back is easier said than done sometimes. Lately, I can't help but wonder if we made the right choice moving Sophia to all-day kindergarten. At the time, it seemed like the best choice, given that she was having to sit through a second lunch and repeat some of the activities twice. We liked her teacher, she had a very small class of 13, and seemed happy those first two days but given the situation, we felt the move was in her best interest. However, now into week 3 of her new classroom, it seems that it has been one struggle after another to adjust and I worry that the change is partly to blame. We went to her school the other night for a school-wide picnic and she lit up when she saw one of her friends from her old class there and she immediately started playing with her. She says the likes her new class but misses Mr. Cooke. There's no going back now but I still wonder-would she be happier and thriving more in half-day kindergarten with 12 classmates? Is it partly my fault that this kindergartner who loves school and learning is struggling so much to adjust?

No, Sophia is just Sophia and she will behave as she does no matter where you put her. This is a good opportunity for her to learn some really important social skills that she will need throughout life. Better to learn them now in kindergarten in a safe environment. She'll figure things out!
