Summer Update

Before I write about our trip to Florida, I need to get caught up on our summer activities prior to that. Here goes (pictures to come later)!

Missing teeth-Now has two missing teeth (bottom middle). One was very loose and so much so that she was worried about eating. I didn't blame her and was avoiding making foods such as corn on the cob for fear that she would swallow it. You can't swallow your first tooth! What would you leave for the Tooth Fairy? She locked herself in the bathroom before dinner and screamed in delight upon pulling it out all on her own! Sophia, Andrew and I camped out in the backyard that night. She kept checking her pillow to see if the Tooth Fairy had come yet. At one point, she went into the house to use the bathroom. I was afraid I'd fall asleep before making the switch so I took that opportunity to take the tooth out and replace it with $2 (it was her first tooth after all). Well, Miss Sophia came back and immediately check her pillow and said, "Mom, I think the Tooth Fairy came." I stalled, asked her to get a flashlight and quickly switched the two again. Sophia was disappointed when I showed her that her tooth was still there. She was very excited to announce in the morning that the Tooth Fairy had come and left $2! Her second tooth came out a few weeks later. This one was loose, but not quite ready to come out. This time, she pulled out when she was supposed to be napping. I was downstairs and heard her screaming, "Mom!" I ran upstairs to find her in the bathroom. Afterward, she felt bad for pulling it out if it wasn't ready yet. I should add that I was a little emotional when she lost the first one. I realized that the tooth she lost was the first one to come in (and how excited we were when it popped through). Now that baby tooth is gone. I know it sounds silly, but I don't want my baby girl to grow up so fast.

Dentist-Andrew made his first visit to the dentist at the beginning of the month. He did very well-they were able to do x-rays, clean his teeth and do a fluoride treatment. His favorite part of the visit though was the little fort area they had in the waiting room. He cried as we left because he wanted to stay. Now, how many kids do you know that request to go back to the dentist? Sophia also did very well. The hygenist made a comment on how good they were being and Sophia replied, "Well, we aren't always this good." At least she's honest!

Birthday-Andrew turned 3 at the end of June. The theme? Trains of course! Andrew planned the menu all on his own-porkchops, green beans and parmesan potatoes. He requested a purple train cake and when my master plan didn't quite work out, Dairy Queen came through with it. He had a great day. We got donuts for breakfast, went to Chutes and Ladders play area and had lunch at Noodles and Company with grandma and Auntie Jen. That night, everyone came over to help celebrate. He was very happy with his gifts (many of which were train related). Sophia was very excited to help with the decor for the event and make many birthday pictures that were displayed on the wall.

Happy Fourth-Andrew was not a fan of fireworks this year. He covered his ears for our backyard display and was very hesistant to try a sparkler (although he eventually did). Sophia, on the other hand, loved the sparklers.

Uncle Jason-came for a visit. Andrew and Sophia loved spending time with him. When he left, Andrew said, "I'm going to miss you."

Bedtime-Andrew has been stalling at bedtime. He comes down and proclaims he isn't tired yet. A few times, I've just let him play for a little bit on his own and then he's ready to go back up. One night, he came down around 10 and peered around the corner dressed in his frog Halloween costume! On our anniversary, we were sitting outside and he came out and said he wanted to cuddle with me. How can you turn down a request like that (even if he was just stalling)?

Kids say the darndest things-Sophia and Andrew made videos at daycare for Father's Day. We knew they were coming via e-mail so once they were in the in-box, we watched them right away. Sophia's answer to one particular question was hilarious! When asked what her daddy does a good job making, her response was, "Pretty much he only goes and gets pizza." I couldn't stop laughing!
