Changed
Sophia made her First Reconciliation tonight. There were close to 10 priests there and you waited in line (a long line) until one of them was free. Sophia happened to get Father Tim, who was the founding priest of our church and who baptized her and was the officiant at our wedding. She decided to confess that she's not always very nice to her brother. She said they had a nice talk and that Father Tim agreed that little brothers can be annoying. Afterwards, she was very nice to Andrew and when we got home, she shared with both Erik and I separately that she felt changed. We'll see how long that lasts. Any bets?
Alex at 1 Month
It's hard to believe that Alex is already 7 weeks old (sigh)! I am loving my time at home with him sharing lots of one-on-one cuddling. So what was this little guy up to in his first month? As I said in an earlier post, his early routine consisted of sleeping, waking up to eat, coughing/choking after about a minute and then passing out again. Not a bad way to spend the day, is it (except for the choking part of course)? Around 2 weeks old, he started focusing in on people better and started tracking too. He likes looking at the shelf on our wall-I think he likes the dark color and there's a light right next to it. I got a smile out of him at 4 weeks but by 5 weeks he was smiling as a reaction to my voice. I love it when they figure out the smiling thing-it melts my heart every time! Alex learned early on that he has me all to himself between 8:15-3 and prefers sleep on me. I don't know how he does it, but he figures it out the second I put him down. Of course I don't do anything to discourage it. At night, he sleeps for 2-3 hours before he's ready to eat again. He's a fan of his pacifier or hand-whichever one he can stuff in his mouth. Even in the hospital he was holding his head up and continues to have pretty good strength for such a little guy.
We've made several visits to the doctor so far. It's a good thing it's a 5-minute drive.
Week 1-check-up-weight still at what it was when we left the hospital (7 lbs 5 oz)
Week 2-made weight gain (8 lbs)
Week 4-tummy trouble-we thought it might be acid reflux (grunting, uncomfortable and spitting up quite a bit), which his brother had; put him on medicine; doctor also detected a slight heart murmur-we took him to Children's the next day and after listening to him, were told 50% of newborns have an innocent murmur and he should outgrow it by a year
Sophia and Andrew continue to dote on their new little brother. They both want to hold him and kiss him right away in the morning and see his as soon as they get home from school. Life as a family of 5 is good!
