Beach Bums

The kids love going to the beach and this summer, we discovered a new one close to home.  What they like about this one is the dock located right in the middle of the beach area.  They jump and jump and jump to their hearts' content.  Sophia prefers jumping off the end in the deepest area (which she can still stand in) while Andrew chooses a spot closer to shore (which is just fine with me).  He's comfortable enough now to jump in on his own most of the time.  Today was a great day to hang out at the beach, followed by a quick shower before heading to the end celebration of Vacation Bible School.

Roughing It

The kids LOVE to camp.  Unfortunately for them, we only do it once a year, when my mom's side of the family camps out at Lake Independence.  I try to camp out with them in the backyard a few other times, but it's not the same.  So...what does one do camping?
Hang out with the family

Goof around in the tent
Find caterpillars
Sit around the campfire

Roast marshmallows (and get the gooey stuff all over your face)

Help everyone pack up when it's time to go home
Crash on the way home (and then take a 4-hour nap)

Acting Debut

Sophia made her acting debut today in a production of the Wizard of Oz.  She did great, but that's no surprise.  She loves being in the spotlight (just like someone else did at that age), had all her lines memorized after the first day and just so happens to really like that movie.  Dressed in her flower girl dress, a crown and holding a wand, she gave her lines perfectly and entertained the audience (half of which was our family).   Video to come.

Speaking of lines-one of Andrew's new favorites is 'cut it out,' but he usually mispronounces it as 'cut it up.'

Are you a Good Witch or a Bad Witch?

I found the perfect class for Sophia to take this summer-a Wizard of Oz acting class! Today was her first day and she was as excited for it as I was.  She even came into our bedroom this morning with the idea that she wear her Wizard of Oz shirt to class (at first she'd suggested wearing her Dorothy dress).  I was able to catch the last few minutes of class today and got to watch her participate in an acting exercise.  Then she brought me her script and shared with me that she was cast as Glinda, exactly who she was hoping to be!  She already has her lines memorized and I can't wait to watch her acting debut later this week.
